City of Newport Downtown SR2 Downtown Revitalization
The project consisted of constructing a planned one-way couplet system through downtown Newport. Scope of work included a Class II bike route, a stormwater drainage system, curbs and gutters and sidewalks within the city’s business district.
This project provided safer pedestrian intersections and improved traffic flow for the existing two-lane highway, as well as economic development opportunities for the downtown area.
The project was funded from the city with LIDs, state of Washington and federal grant programs.
Project costs: $4,184,000 (1997)
