City of Newport Wastewater Treatment Upgrade
2003 Project for City of Newport Wastewater Treatment Upgrade included: Improvements for headworks facility, new sludge dewatering facility, reconstruction of pump station No. 1, construction of new dog kennel, improvements to aerobic digester, construction of a plant utility water system and all associated electrical and control systems.
Need for improvements to the existing system would allow safe and convenient storage of sludge during winter months and allow safe application during the spring, summer and fall months in order to ensure better crop utilization of nutrients, better pathogen inactivation and better prevention of runoff to uncontrolled areas. A new headworks included a fine screen with screening washer and compactor. This allowed acceptance of septage from surrounding areas.
